Tokyo Gardens & Cityscapes
We did a lot of walking in Tokyo. And a fair bit of train travel. The city is huge; getting anywhere requires using the transit system. It’s very convenient, however it’s not in English. It takes a few puzzle people to figure things out. Lucky I travel with a pair of men who like to figure this stuff out. Still it can be nervous making when you have to step onto a train that is literally packed with people. No one had to shove us into place but we did stand a long while sometimes. Yikes!
On to descriptions of this selection of photos . . .
Zach and I both were fascinated by the manhole covers. We took shots of all the ones we came across. Fancy.
Tokyo is a very dense city. From our hotel window on the 28th floor there were buildings as far as the eye could see. When you are down on the streets it can get confusing. The second photo of the second row is how it felt to me often, very tight.
The third and fourth rows show the park we saw from our hotel room. I spent a lovely afternoon there. The first shot in the row is our hotel. Each one of those windows is a single room. They are VERY small. We had to store our suitcases under the bed.
We enjoyed great weather. It never rained on us til the last day on the way to the airport. Otherwise the weather was warm but not too hot. The humidity did get to us a couple of times though.
I love the second shot in the fourth row of the bird perched high in the tree. I was in the park so long I watched the bird fly up there and then swoop down as well. I also sat and watched turtles swimming and sunning. They’re not very photogenic though.
The final two photos are the train station, and a street in a shopping district in the evening. We’d gone out for dipping noodles. The place we were headed was a restaurant on the 8th floor. Seemed crazy to me. But it’s quite normal, the only place to go in Tokyo is up. There is no space to spread out.
