Random Wonderful Iona

I try to stay in the moment and enjoy my time here on Iona. So I’ve not taken a ton of photos. The kitchen work is fun with our good team. Even the weekly huddle (all staff meeting) is a good time. There is so much community, compassion, and respect. So while I could take photos all day long and keep an extensive journal; I’d rather give you some impressions and leave it at that. So here are a few more tid-bits of my Iona journey after two weeks.

There have been at least two sunsets that caught me by surprise and took my breath away. And I’m told they just get better and better as the season wears on and sun stays up later and later. I came out of the abbey one evening to a red sky and it made me tear up. It was just so beautiful. The photos are a far second, sorry.

I have been sending a few letters to family. I love the little post box. I actually go into the wee post office. It costs me 3.40$ to send a letter home. Yikes! Still I love to send mail so it’s an expense I’ll take on.

I like good design. I like the sign infront of the abbey that asks you to be kind, be patient, be safe. The bishop makes me smile when I walk by him on the way to work each day.

The little pencil cup was a fun find in Oban on my way here to the island. I didn’t realize at the time what a nice addition to my desk it would be while I’m here. I bought it because I want the locally made local yarn souvenir. But it has turned out to be perfect for my drawing times.

Come on, that’s just a funny little boat. So cute down at the jetty. You can see it’s called the tardis. Doctor Who fans rejoice.

Couple shots of me being me on the island. Contemplative in the cloisters and silliness in the water. Many of the volunteers go for a swim. I will not, it’s too darn cold. I mean really really cold. It’s called wild swimming and it’s not for me.

All the little boats make me smile.

Finally the praying carving. I took this shot because I want to use it as source material for a drawing. I also like that it’s on the chair where the leader of the service sits. I have signed up to lead service on Saturday morning. I’ll have to take a snap of the full chair and show you another time.
