Random Iona Tales
That’s me with potat-o-rama! Declan our Irish chef has what he calls his “Potato Anxiety.” It’s his genetic predisposition to needing there to be enough potatoes for everyone. He was not here the day this shot was taken so we texted it to him. I am standing with 12, yes, 12 pans of potatoes. Newsflash we only got six pieces of potato back. They were ALL GONE!
Thsoe four girls walking down the road in front of me were the cutest. Four friends singing “Defying Gravity” at the top of their lungs. Not just the song but the whole scene from the movie. It was very cool. I gave them a round of applause as they passed me. They nodded but didn’t skip a beat.
During the summer the hills near my house sometimes have a herd of goats in them. They are brought in to keep down the fire danger. I think the sheep near this house are just coming in for a meal closer to home. It made me giggle.
Doors here make me smile. SOme are at the top of spiral stairways, some are very large. And I am standing in a doorway that is just my size (said Goldielocks). This is the door I go through to sit in St Columbus memorial after a long shift. It’s a tiny chapel like room at the fron tof the abbey. It’s the perfect place to decompress for a bit before heading out into the world after a long hot kitchen shift.
More views from a bench. Thos two benches look at the abbey. I could take a picture of the abbey before and after every shift and it would startle you how different it is. The weather is wild on Iona. I’ve seen most of it, except snow.
Finally the rose door. I love this one and wanted to preserver the memory of it. I also know who lives there…Yes I”ve been on the island that long! teehee. (It’s a staff member, so I was kind of cheating. But you were impressed for a moment weren’t you.)
