Water 7-12-25 & Clouds 7-14-25

Earth, sea, sky come together on Iona and make you stop in your track to marvel. These colors defy adjectives! Those clouds don’t look real! Two days in particular were noteworthy recently.

July 12 The sun shone all day long, unusual itself. But the things the light did to the water was next level beautiful. I photographed it however admiring the view in person was the only way to appreciate the value of the colors. Wow.

July 15 Was one of those days when the sky was spectacular. There’s no way to share it properly. The blues and greens, the light, the shadow. It all engulfed me. I share these photos anyway so I can remember the feeling and you can glimpse the day.

The first picture of the second row has a wee story. This is the view every evening leaving the abbey. That shed is the welcome gate for those coming to take the audio tour of the Abbey or just wander the grounds. The cool thing about it is the roof is growing grass. It makes me smile. I also like to stop in and say hi to the folks who work their. On Sundays if there are leftover puddings (dessert) we share them with the staff at the gate. It’s always fun to surprise them.

One more fun fact about the folk at the front…I’ve been given a Welsh name from them. I go in and out a lot and I’ve learned all their names. To be fair they have name tags on so it’s a no brainer. Paul dubbed me Myfanwy (Mavanwie) from week one. I will take that little silliness home and think of it as my Iona name. It’s a secret souvenir of my own.
