Tobermory Adventure

I will confess I said no to this adventure at first offer. I didn’t want to take a long bus ride. But I got over myself and decided I’m this close and I am not a hermit on an island. I need to go. And I can be very brave if I am with a buddy. Just ask my Iona traveling companion from last year, Ginny. She and I rented a car and went forest bathing and (she) drove on the wrong side of the road. But that’s another story.

Ferry, bus, bus, and we were in Tobermory. Like my friend Ginny, Steven likes to plan. He’s good at getting hotel reservations and figuring out bus schedules and ferry timetables. I was happy he let me tag along. I’d never had made it to Tobermory without him. And really it’s more fun to do these things with a friend.

The first couple photos show you the classic Tobermory shots: the colored shops of main street and the harbor. It was fun to go in and out of all the little shops. We especially liked the Tackle and Book Shop. Seriously? What a combo! And they threw in fine art supplies for good measure! Crazy. Of course I bought a book. Okay two.

We had been forewarned our hotel was at the top of the hill. Turns out there are a set of stairs to take you up and down the hillside. Very lovely. And worth the trek to the top. We really enjoyed the views during dinner. Such a beautiful dining room. Our room as you can see was posh, though we didn’t opt for the sea view. A little to rich for our budget.

It was a very relaxing way to spend out two days off. We saw the other side of the Isle of Mull. We played tourist. We ate fish & chips. We browsed charity shops in Craignure and Tobermory both of us making some clothes purchases. And we had the pleasure of each other’s company and getting to know one another better. Good conversation makes the trip all the more enjoyable.

IT was nice to go and it was nice to come “home” again. And now another full week of Iona activities begins. A new crop of guests arrives on Saturday and we start the whole cycle all over again. Wonder what adventures this week will hold?
