A Good Hair Day
There is something about a fresh haircut that puts a spring in my step. Like Maria in West Side Story, “I feel pretty, I feel pretty!” Why is it so important? It seems like a small thing: a good hair day. It feels superficial to even say it matters to me. But when I feel good about my appearance it’s as if one thing has been checked off the to-do list. Maintenance of the body is a big deal. So many things need upkeep. Daily there is showering, brushing, lotioning, exercising, nutrition etc. Not to mention the annual things like eye exams, physical exams, dental exams, (maybe I should be studying for these exams!). Yikes. So when a good hair day pops up I’ll take it.These days I have decided to be gray and to admit to the age my hair really is. I have been wavering lately about coloring my hair again. But at this point, who am I kidding? Everyone has seen it gray. So a good hair day is a fresh cut. And since I have short hair I need a cut once a month or so. That means at least once a month I have a good hair day. Okay it’s not that pathetic, I can do my own hair and make it look nice. But a haircut day is more than just looking good in the end. It’s the little bit of pampering that comes with letting someone else wash and style my hair. I get to relax and let be taken care of for an hour. And maybe that is why a good hair day feels so nice, the lovely feelings inside match the outside I present to the world.
