Haggis and other Scottish things
Haggis. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. I had heard enough about haggis to know I was leery of trying it; sheep intestines stuffed with oats and who knows what else. No thank you. Well I was wrong. It is delicious. I think it’s much like eating a pile of Jimmy Dean Breakfast sausage only different spices. We served the traditional pairing of haggis with neeps and tatties. Those are turnips and roasted potatoes. Yum all round. The turnips were covered in a yogurt sauce with roast pumpkin seeds. So good.
One of the jokes round the staff and volunteer tables is what is your favorite meal so far. It’s usually the one we just ate! Although I am beginning to have favorites, and haggis is one of them. Very strange. We keep turning out delicious meals. I am learning little tricks and spice combinations: carrots roasted in orange juice and sprinkled with cinnamon. And my chopping skills are improving little by little.
