Abundance
In the movie Broadcast News William Hurt's pretty boy character Tom Grunnick is promoted ahead of Albert Brooks more qualified but less charismatic character, Aaron Altman. They are at a cocktail party together and Tom asks Aaron,
"What do you do when your real life exceeds your dreams?"
Aaron answers, "Keep it to yourself."
Oh, I can relate to Aaron's feelings. I don't want to hear about how peachy every thing is for you: the hot new job, the brand new house, the dream vacation, the fulfilling work. Just keep it to yourself; don't tell me because I'm struggling over here.
But what happens when you do have news so great you want to share it with friends, family, maybe even strangers in line at the grocery store? I've glimpsed those days. I've had moments when my real life exceeds my dreams. These moments are not the stuff of tv movies, best selling novels, or even clever comercials. There are moments when I have an assurance of peace, a positive feeling of God in my life and His caring—deeply—for me.
Sometimes these moments are fleeting and I want to run to catch it again. Other times the peace of a situation lasts for a while. It's hard to keep pace with God, he'll race on ahead and I'm left panting for breath and looking for guidence. Other times he's a stop and smell the roses kind of guy. Either way I am assured from Jeremiah 29:11,
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
I'm sure His plans are beyond my dreams, I've glimpsed it. God has plans for you too. You may be running breathless behind him these days but he is leading if you are willing to follow.
