Happy Birthday
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come to pray to me and I will listen to you.”
Jeremiah 29:11-12
Most folks this week are getting ready for Thanksgiving. Well I am one of the lucky folks who’s birthday is this week as well. A couple years ago I received a very special gift. I was thinking of it again today and wanted to share it with you.
I unwrapped was an amazing surprise, full of spectacular colors you can’t quite describe: deep raspberry, autumn orange, peach and pink and palest yellow. It was a sunrise splashed across the sky still mingling with stars and moon. It was the kind of sunrise that makes poets of the old master painters. Yes, the sky really can look like a Fragonard painting.
During my morning walk the sky continued to change and unfold. Each moment shifted to bring a different facet of sunlight to the clouds and hills. It was a grand gift to see all that potential. What a fabulous way to begin my birthday. I was not looking behind at a year of joy and sorrows but seeing a glimpse of all that was coming. The days of my life unfolded and I saw some crimson with rage, some pale yellow with romance other defiant gray with depression and still others amber with maternal joy.
Also wrapped in my sunrise gift I heard a whisper of potential, “Look at all the facets of life I am offering you. Let’s paint a complete picture together.”
I will not be spared the dark forest greens or thunder grays, they will stay in the frame but they will mix in balance with moonbeam silvers and delicate pinks. When we finish, my life will be a masterpiece, a piece of the Master.
